Hum..I know its a weird question, and I am assuming so, but are you guys organic? It doesn’t really say on your site. sorry if this is offensive but if you are organic put it front and center.
thanks, Dr,. Bonnie
Hi Dr. Bonnie,
No offense, it’s a perfectly reasonable inquiry that simply means you care!
HappyDirt grows veggies in a manner that we feel exceeds the expectations one would have for organic produce. We are not certified organic by the USDA. We may possibly go that route in the future, but for now we are relying on the trust of our customers and complete openness as to our methods.
Our website is still under construction, but we intend to have our full growing philosophy posted very soon. In short, we are growing on former pasture that has been in the same family since the 1930′s, lightly grazed by cattle and horses over the years. We rely on only natural inputs– our own home-made compost, natural minerals, and beneficial microbial inoculants–to maintain fertility. We use no chemical inputs whatsoever. We care deeply about nourishing our customers and the land, and always look to the long-term consequences of our actions.
Thanks for your interest!
Matt
Do you think in the future your CSA customers could come out and see the farm? Take a little tour? I know my husband and I would love to come see how you all do things. So looking forward to the CSA this year, I can’t begin to tell you!
So much thanks for the amazing food grown with love (it can be tasted)!
Margaret
Yes!! We hope to offer tours on a regular basis during the CSA season, so keep posted on this blogsite for details. We’re looking forward to the CSA as well – the best part about it will be getting to know all the great CSA members like you. So glad you’ve been enjoying the veggies, yes we do love growing them!
Looking forward to meeting you this season,
~aluna.
